Gay sex on television

I’ve been watching the AMC program, Halt and Catch Fire. It’s about a company building one of the first PC clones back in the early 80′s. Frankly, it’s been a little slow. In episode 3, as is becoming the norm there was a homosexual making out and presumed sex scene.

According to Wikipedia, homosexuals are about 3.8% of the U.S. Population. How come every new show must have gay characters? It’s like some kind of quota, and for shows that depict earlier time periods it’s very common and blatant when we all know it was in the closet in those days.

I have no hatred or fear of gays. Live and let live is my motto. With gay marriage all but inevitable in every state, we all get it. There are gay people around, but jamming a scene into shows where it has nothing to do with the story is just silly. It’s political correctness taken to extremes. Frankly, for gays it should be a little insulting. It would be like every show having a token interracial couple, or transgendered, or a kid in a wheelchair, when none of those characters were part of the story. People irritate me.
